“As far as the east is from the west, so far He removes our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12
Forgiveness of self is challenging. As Catholics we receive tremendous peace from the Sacrament of Confession. However, what if the sin was something that made a lifelong impact? “If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.
Who are we to continue to carry the sin around? Although, it’s not easy to forget about it and remain in God’s peace, we must resist transforming the guilt into a lifetime of anger and regret. If God says you are forgiven, be grateful for His mercy and live to serve Him more abundantly. Let us focus not on the mistakes, but on the gifts in our life. Stop living in the past or you might miss the beautiful future God has planned.
“Come now, let us argue it out, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18
